Popping into Tate Modern

Last Saturday, as I usually do when dropping off or pick up work from the Bankside Gallery, I popped into Tate Modern next door to take in a few rooms of the free art available. This time I went to the display; ‘In the Studio’, where there’s a cracking collection of early twentieth century European paintings, including the likes of Picasso, Braque, Giacometti, Matisse, Morandi, Cezanne and Modigliani.

Visiting Tate Modern can be quite confusing. I’d recommend heading to one of the five, themed collection displays. On level 2 of the Natalie Bell Building (the building nearest the Thames), there’s ‘Artist and Society‘, ‘In the Studio‘, and ‘Start Displays‘. Then on level 4 of the same building, you’ll find ‘Materials and Objects‘, and ‘Performer and Participant‘.

Over at the Blavatnik Building, there’s also ‘The Tanks‘, a space for live art, performances and film and video work, and ‘Artist Rooms’, a temporary themed display, currently showing the work of Helen Chadwick.

Back in September last year, I also wrote the post: ‘Where to see art for free.’
