Seeing Edward Burra at Tate Britain was one of those exhibitions that unexpectedly hits the spot. If you like quirky figurative depictions of slightly outrageous scenes from someones travels, you have until October 19th to get to enjoy it. It was also a nice surprise to see that the majority of works had been painted using watercolour.
I listened to a couple of podcasts in advance which set the scene nicely; Front Row’s overview of the exhibition (ff. 11m 50s), and a discussion about the artist, including some great clips of Burra being interviewed, on Great Lives, from back in 2014.
The Tate has also put together a nice Edward Burra playlist on Spotify to listen to whilst at the exhibition.
I also have a Spotify playlist to accompany my latest paintings which you can find it at the bottom of my website.
