Art beside the seaside, beside the sea!

Linden Hall Studio in Deal, on the coast of Kent, is a little gem of a gallery, housing an impressive display of 20th and 21st century artists, as well as an ever changing programme of excellent temporary shows. From this Saturday (until August 17th) I will have two ‘seaside works’ (pictured above and below) included in their next show, which celebrates the work of current members of the Royal Watercolour Society (Tues-Sun / Free entry). Deal is a lovely seaside town to visit with trains arriving direct from London.

The next time you go to catch a bit of sun at the seaside, why not catch an exhibition or two at the same time? Along the 130 miles of coastline south east of the Turner Contemporary (Free entry) in Margate there’s plenty of contemporary art to see along the way.

17 miles from Margate is Folkestone, with it’s free outdoor art trail of works by 46 renowned artists, then, 40 miles further on, passing Derek Jarman’s house in Dungeness on the way, are the Hastings Contemporary (Free under 18s) and the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea (Free entry). Head along the coast for 12 miles more and you’ll arrive at the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne (Free), home to the Turner Prize earlier in the year, and then a further 50 miles and slightly inland is Pallent House Gallery (Free for under 18s) in Chichester.
