Varnishing Day at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this coming Monday will be a very proud moment for me; not only as an artist, but also as a mentor; I’ll be spending the day with three of my Studio Fridays mentees, all of whom will be exhibiting at the Royal Academy for the first time. Having considered Ann Christopher’s (this year’s coordinator) request for work exploring ‘Making Space’, Hilary Vernon-Smith, Sara Gregory, Simon Gazzard and myself have had the following pieces selected:
1. Paul Regan: Unnamed Road
2. Hilary Vernon – Smith: In Memoriam I
3. Sara Gregory: Menopause – Empty and Menopause – Almost Full
4. Simon Gazzard: Frosty morning dog walk on Hampstead Heath
Nearly all artists join my Studio Fridays mentoring sessions having not previously exhibited professionally, so being selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is always a very special milestone. Studio Fridays mentoring is currently full, but please feel free to make contact if you feel that it might be of interest to you in the future.
