The painting and collage was made jointly by Heather and Robert Stewart this term, during the small, joyful Zoom sessions I run on Monday mornings. The colourful swirls of acrylic paint were made by Heather, and the equally colourful collaged buildings by Robert. The work is 1.5 meters wide and captures the joy of their trip to Lake Como in Spring.
Sadly Robert passed away soon after completing this piece. As well as making wonderful collages, Robert was also a Town and Borough Councillor. Birkhamsted Council have named a meeting room after him; ‘The Robert Stewart Hall’, and his collages are to be displayed on it’s walls. In his last few weeks in the Hospice of St Francis, he was also made Mayor of Berkhamsted.
Heather continues to attend the classes. She’s an amazing person. Robert’s zest for learning will be very much missed, but I know that his energy will continue to be felt on Zoom.
