I hope you have had a good week. It’s been a great week for artists like Peter Brown who like to paint the rain!
I managed to finish those watercolours I mentioned last week, in time for the ‘220 Years of the Royal Watercolour Society’ exhibition at the Bankside Gallery, starting on October 4th. I’d like to invite you to join me at the Private View this coming Thursday from 6-8pm, for a glass of wine, and to be first too see the exhibition. No need to rsvp. Just turn up and say hi.

I had another lovely teaching day in the studio on Wednesday. I started the sessions by looking at painters who have included masks in their work, then a quick demo before students dressed up and made 90 minute self portraits of themselves in disguise. During the next three sessions, the choice of subject matter is handed over to students, allowing them to work on their own themes. My aim will be to help each of them to achieve their painting goals, and more!
If you are currently attending one of my painting classes, please remember to share your work on Instagram and tag me using @paulregan, so that I’m alerted to see them.
Artists Dawn Limbert and Elise Mendelle have taken over my Studio Fridays Instagram account until the end of their art fair. They will be introducing each of the artists taking part and sharing lots of photographs throughout the duration of the fair. Please follow the account (@studiofriadys_london) for regular updates. I’ve also added work by three more Studio Fridays artists at the bottom of this newsletter.
Huge congratulations to three of my Studio Fridays mentees who have recently been elected as members of prestigious art societies. Victoria Perloff has been elected a full member of the Society of Women Artists, Dawn Limbert has been elected associate member of the Society of Graphic Fine Arts and Raina Goran has been elected as an associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society.
And finally….. a few quick links:
I enjoyed watching the film ‘Lee‘ last weekend and now plan to visit Farley’s House and Gallery to see where she (Lee Miller) and Roland Penrose lived, and the art collection they left behind.
In last weeks newsletter I mentioned the sad news that Norman Ackroyd had died. I enjoyed listening to him being interviewed on Private Passions and hearing his music choices (only 10 days left to listen). It also introduced me to the piano works of his daughter Poppy, which compliment her fathers artwork perfectly.
The excellent charity War Child currently has a good selection of artwork up for auction. If you are in a position to bid, please have a look at what’s available and consider helping this great cause.
Last week I mentioned that the Van Gogh exhibition had opened at the National Gallery. This week, it’s the turn of Monet at the Courtauld Gallery. Have you got your ticket?
Have a lovely weekend.
